What is desk-based processing?

Desk-based processing ensures that admissions staff can process only the applications at their assigned desks. Permissions define the application data and data linked to applicants that admissions staff can view and edit.

Authorisation policies has the Desk access policy that defines roles and permissions that apply to all desks and that has child policies for each desk, which enable roles to be specific to desks. Therefore, admissions staff assigned to roles of the Desk access policy have permissions at all desks and admissions staff assigned to a specific desk have permissions at that desk only.

Attention. A child policy for each desk, including the desk for unallocated applications, EDGE_UNALLOCATED, is created automatically.

Applications has generic roles and permissions, such as for the Applications viewer and Applications officer. However, roles must be specific to desks. For example, the role Applications viewer science has the same permissions as the Applications viewer role for applications at the science desk only.

In the diagram Desk-based processing admissions staff assigned to the role Applications supervisors can process applications at all desks, whereas admissions staff assigned to the roles Applications viewer science and Applications viewer humanities can only process applications at the science desk and humanities desk respectively.
